cookies for now, and later
every darn good cookie recipe, plus a round-up of recent faves from all over substack
cookies aren’t seasonal, but every year, without fail, from the end of november through to the end of december, they’re literally everywhere—inescapable and thoroughly “in season.” i’ve been surrounded by cookies for weeks, flinging them at friends, eating them for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and watching just about every food content creator on the internet brown butter, chop chocolate and gift wrap stacks of theirs in cellophane and ribbon.
i’d be lying if i said i don’t currently have cookie fatigue; i do. i’m obviously guilty of adding to it, but that’s because i do actually love cookies and, well, i developed and baked these before the fatigue set in tbh.
if your brain would never put the words “cookie” and “fatigue” together in a sentence, i’m happy for you, and i hope you find some festive bakes below to add to your cookie box. if you can’t even think about a cookie right now without feeling irritated—how did you make it this far?—and please just save this list of later, many if not most these recipes will live well beyond the holiday season, if you’ll let them.

without further ado, here are quick links to every cookie recipe i’ve developed and published here on darn good, plus (keep scrolling!) a round-up of some other cookie recipes from around substack that have caught my eye this season:

many an amazing looking cookie recipe has crossed my path of late. below are some of my favorites, sourced from all over substack, plus a cheeky little link to (yet another!) cookie round-up featuring my tebirkes cookies:
blue corn linzers with pepper jelly from ian akerlind of sweet teeth
crispy leaf tuiles (and just about every other cookie on her 2025 advent calendar) from Sophie Bamford of all day cake
cumin and nigella see shortbreads from Apoorva Sripathi of shelf offering
chocolate and cherry thumbprints from Thea Everett of what’s that you’re cooking, thea?
mohnkipferl (poppyseed & vanilla crescent cookies) from Martin Sorge of great bakes
brown butter, black cocoa and passion fruit curd cookies from Deepika Kalla-Paul of thedeeperliving
hand-formed pistachio butter stuffed shortbread from Kristina Cho of have you eaten yet?
chocolate peppermint tea cakes from Nicola Lamb of kitchen projects
holiday cookie wonderland, a round-up from the naturally sweet life

Appreciate the timing on this one since it acknowledges cookie fatigue while still delivering the goods. The brown butter black cocoa and passion fruit curd combo caught my eye immediately, feels like exactly the sorta unexpected flavor pairing that keeps baking interesting when everything else starts blurring together. Saving this list for when I'm finally ready to bake again in February lol.
Cookie fatigue is real. I just want a slice of Stollen and a strong glass of egg nog. (Thanks for the mention, too!)
