today’s fave five comes to us from lisa kosak, ceramicist and founder of helka ceramics studio here in berlin. i first became acquainted with lisa’s work when i went to a pottery pop up some years back and bought one of her iconic good mood cups as a gift for a friend. since then, my own personal collection of helka ceramics has grown over the years, some pieces of which you can see showcased in various recipes published here and on my instagram; for example, this snack plate and bowl.
i thoroughly enjoyed lisa’s fave five, and read it as a little love letter to her life in berlin. enjoy and see you next week!
lisa kosak’s fave five
My daily commute to the studio: Every day I cross Hasenheide with my dog Lotta to go to the studio. It's the perfect way to start the day outside of the Neukölln chaos and see some grass, alternating between the meadows, the hilly side or the petting zoo. It will also often involve a pit-stop at Albatross to get a pastry or some bread for the day.
Chili oil wontons from Lon Men’s Noodle House: Whenever I reach a certain point in the West of the city, I have to pay a visit to Lon Men's and order their wontons (although the noodles with spicy ragu is also high on the list) and I recommend you do the same. They're silky, tasty, and the chili oil is deep and so flavorful! The perfect snack at any time of the day, imho.
The NTS Breakfast Show with Flo: I'm often starting my days at the studio listening to The Breakfast Show on NTS, and my favourite host is Flo. She brings the perfect mix of familiar songs, uplifting tunes and lesser known tracks to ease you into the day. Special mention for the feature "Matters of the Heart" where listeners send in their deepest life questions and Flo or her guest answer very openly and candidly.
Vortek Solutions: A bit of a shameless plug here, but my partner's woodworking project keeps amazing me. After building my studio (for which I'll be eternally grateful), he's now worked on many other projects, each one better than the last. The latest one is my favourite jeweler's showroom, Johanna Gauder, whose stunning work you should also check out!
Friday afternoon strolls at the Maybachufer market: On Fridays, my studio angel Julia comes to work for a full day, and (weather allowing) we often take our lunch break at the Maybachufer market to get some fresh flowers for the studio, grab a schnitzel at Schnitzel Piefke and stock up some veggies and herbs for the weekend.
Such a fun tour of your neighborhood!
